Celebrating 100 years of Razie!

Razie Brownstone turned 100 this year by dancing to live jazz at the Tranzac Club in Toronto. Her family did a fabulous job bringing family and friends together to celebrate this remarkable woman. They even got a letter for her from King Charles!

Razie was dancing up a storm and shining brightly. She’s very agile and a fully capable woman who still lives alone. Her children and grandchildren told funny stories about her. To sum it up – she’s a very good listener. They also felt that she’s a low maintenance woman who loves ice cream! She’s a blast to be with and, from young to old, (everything is relative) everyone loves spending time with Razie!

I also wrote a blog post about visiting her in Newfoundland in 2020.

This month, I finished a short film about her life with Leah Meddaoui and Kwasi Kyei. She shares some of her wisdom and you can watch it here. I did five interviews with her over the stretch of a year and we think it captures her sparkling personality and zest for life. Kwasi shot the footage and Leah put it together with a keen eye to the story line and added some lovely details. I’m thrilled to have worked with each of them on this passion project. We will be editing a shorter version to submit to film festivals. Please let me know if there’s a film festival you think we should consider. Thanks!
